Having taking several leadership training programs over the years, I have learned through experience that not all programs are created equal.
And, since I now have my own personal development and leadership training programs, I would like to offer you through that experience, some key elements that you should look for in any program that will help you earn your leadership stripes.
The biggest problem that I find is; most people I are simply not even looking for that type of program or when they finally do decide that they’re going to step out in front of a crowd and act like a leader, they don’t know how to assess the quality of the companies that they’re choosing to learn from.
Here are three very important elements of a good quality leadership training program.
- Always make sure that the person that you’re learning from has what you want. Especially if they’re just hired trainers and not successful in their own right. In other words, when it comes to something like financial success, you shouldn’t be taking advice from someone who’s broke or even in the same tax bracket. You might get different advice but that doesn’t make it better.
I always recommend to people that you research who your learning from. Obviously one of the best places to do that is to simply take the name of the person or the company and Google them. If you can’t find them, then that might tell you that person hasn’t built up enough quality history or expertise. There should always be a digital trail of good work. - The next most important element is that they have a context for teaching. Information, while important, is not the most important thing. Good teachers require top level training. Do they have the ability to enroll and engage you? Do they understand powerful suggestology techniques and neurolinguistic programming? These are important elements because they tend to keep you on the edge of your learning seat. Try to seek out videos of the person training online or take one of their webinars before deciding to spend money.
- And finally, one of the most important aspects that you should be looking for in a quality leadership training program is value. Most people put cost over value. In my experience, just because it’s inexpensive doesn’t mean you’re getting a great deal. My own leadership training programs, while there at the high end of the learning scale, are also at the high-end of the investment scale. Why? Because, I personally would rather not work with everyone and it’s important for you to know that the person you’re learning from wouldn’t want to work with everyone either. Be specific and be picky and be discerning.
These to me represent the most important aspects of assessing a high quality leadership program. Your next step could be to fill out the comment box at the bottom and let us know what you’d be looking for and we’ll see if we can help you find it.
